New York Islanders defenceman Mike Reilly exited Friday's game against the Buffalo Sabres after suffering an apparent injury.
It wasn't immediately clear what the nature of the injury was.
The incident occurred at the 10-minute mark in the second period. Reilly fell hard to the ice after a hit from Sabres forward Jordan Greenway put him into the boards.
A scrum between the two sides broke out after play stopped.
Reilly stayed down on the ice for some time after the play and had to be looked at by the team's medical staff. A stretcher was brought onto the ice but he was able to skate off and head to the locker room with help from teammates.
Up to that point in the game, Reilly had logged 7:24 of ice time.
The 31-year-old is playing in his second season with the Islanders. He has yet to record a point in 10 games. Last year, the Chicago, Ill. native had six goals and 18 assists in 59 games.
Reilly did not return for the remainder of the game, which the Islanders won 4-3.
