The New York Islanders signed goaltender Ilya Sorokin to an eight-year, $66 million contract extension on Saturday.
The deal will kick in next season after his current contract expires.
Sorokin posted a 31-22-7 record, 2.34 goals against average and .924 save percentage plus a league-leading six shutouts this past season. He was a fan vote winner to compete in the All-Star Game and also finished runner-up for the Vezina Trophy to Bruins netminder Linus Ullmark.
The 27-year-old from Mezhdurechensk, Russia, was drafted in the third round (78th overall) by the Islanders in 2014 and holds a career record of 72-48-20 over three seasons with the club.
He earned a gold medal with the Olympic Athletes from Russia during the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
