The New York Islanders have signed defenceman Scott Mayfield to a seven-year, $24.5-million contract extension, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported Saturday.
Mayfield, 30, set career-highs in goals (six), assists (18) and points (24) last season in 82 games with the Islanders. He finished second on the team in average ice-time per game (21:02) and led the team with 168 blocked shots, which placed 10th overall in the NHL.
The Islanders selected Mayfield in the second round (34th overall) of the 2011 NHL Draft. In 428 career games with the Islanders, the St. Louis native has 111 points (25 goals, 86 assists).
