Jack Hughes, the son of new Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes, was drafted in the second round (51st overall) by the Los Angeles Kings at the 2022 NHL Draft on Friday.
The Canadiens made three picks before the Kings selected Hughes, an 18-year-old centre from Northeastern University.
Hughes had seven goals and nine assists in 39 games with Northeastern last season.
