Jakub Vrana will rejoin the Washington Capitals for training camp after agreeing to a professional tryout agreement, the team announced Thursday.
Vrana was drafted in the first round, 13th overall, by the Capitals in 2014 and spent four-and-a-half seasons with the club. He captured the Stanley Cup with Washington in 2018.
The Prague, Czechia, native was traded to the Detroit Red Wings in April 2021. He entered the player assistance program in October 2022. Vrana cleared waivers and was sent to the minors before returning to the Red Wings. He was traded to the St. Louis Blues in March 2023.
Vrana split this past season between the Blues and their American Hockey League affiliate, the Springfield Thunderbirds. He had six points (two goals and four assists) in 21 games with St. Louis, plus 36 points (16 goals and 20 assists) in 42 games with Springfield.
The 28-year-old has recorded 209 points (110 goals and 99 assists) in 367 career games over nine seasons with Washington, Detroit and St. Louis.
