Jets' Gabriel Vilardi out 4-6 weeks with sprained MCL

Winnipeg Jets forward Gabriel Vilardi will be out four to six weeks with a sprained MCL, coach Rick Bowness told reporters on Wednesday, per Mike McIntyre of the Winnipeg Free Press.

Vilardi exited Tuesday's game against the Los Angeles Kings in the first period with a lower-body injury.

The incident occurred when Vilardi was hit along the boards by Kings forward Blake Lizotte. Vilardi went down at an awkward angle as it appeared his right leg folded beneath him, but was able to skate off the ice on his own accord.

Vilardi, 24, was skating in his first game against his former team since being traded to the Jets as part of the deal that sent Pierre-Luc Dubois to Los Angeles.

The Kingston, Ont., native had a breakout campaign last season, notching 23 goals and 41 points in 63 games.

He was selected 11th overall in the 2017 NHL Draft by the Kings.
