Winnipeg Jets forward Cole Perfetti left Wednesday's game against the Calgary Flames after taking a hit to the head on a late shoulder check from Flames forward Martin Pospisil in the second period.
Perfetti, 21, went back to the locker room for further evaluation after the hit and didn't return to the bench for the third period.
Flames centre Pospisil was assessed a game misconduct penalty for the hit.
After the game, Jets head coach Rick Bowness had some strong thoughts on the hit.
"It was a cheap shot and the referees got it right," Bowness told reporters. "Good for the referees to take a look at it. It's a complete headshot. It's a cheap shot, simple as that."
In his second year for the Jets last season, Perfetti had eight goals and 30 points in 51 games but suffered an upper-body injury in February that would sideline him for the rest of the year.
He was officially removed from the injured reserve on Sep. 20.
