The Winnipeg Jets placed forward Blake Wheeler on injured reserve and called up goaltender Arvid Holm on an emergency basis from the AHL's Manitoba Moose on Tuesday.
Wheeler underwent groin surgery on Friday and is expected to be out of action for at least a month. He sustained the injury after blocking a shot during Thursday's 2-1 overtime win over the Nashville Predators.
"He's one tough cookie," Jets head coach Rick Bowness said about the fact Wheeler played the third period despite the injury.
The 35-year-old Wheeler has 26 points (nine goals and 17 assists) in 29 games this season.
Holm has a 7-3-2 record, 2.55 goals-against average and .923 save percentage in 12 games with the Moose this season. The 24-year-old from Sweden was drafted in the sixth round, 167th overall, in 2017 and has yet to make his NHL debut.
