The Winnipeg Jets have recalled centre Jansen Harkins from the Manitoba Moose on an emergency basis and have sent defenceman Ville Heinola down to the AHL team, the NHL club announced Friday.
The Jets are short at forward with David Gustafsson on injured reserve and several players battling illnesses.
Jets coach Rick Bowness said forward Morgan Barron (illness) will be out Friday against the Pittsburgh Penguins, while forward Cole Perfetti (illness) also will be a game-time decision.
Harkins will be in the lineup if Perfetti can't play.
Bowness also said David Rittich will start in goal after Connor Hellebuyck played Thursday in a win over the Buffalo Sabres.
Harkins has three goals and two assists in 22 games for the Jets and seven goals and five assists in 12 games for the Moose this season.
Heinola has one assist in eight games for the Jets and 10 assists in 13 games for the Moose this season.
