Winnipeg Jets forward Mark Scheifele will not play on Saturday against the Ottawa Senators, but is making progress with a lower-body injury that has sidelined him day-to-day, head coach Rick Bowness told reporters.
Scheifele will travel with the team on the road trip, though his status for the remaining games is still to be determined as Scheifele has yet to resume skating.
The 30-year-old suffered the injury last week against the Chicago Blackhawks, when he pulled up on the back check and appeared to tweak something in the second period. He did not return to the game.
Scheifele has played his entire 13-year career with the Jets, with three 30+ goal seasons under his belt. Despite his injury, Scheifele has been playing at a point-per-game pace, scoring 14 goals and 41 points in 41 games.
He was selected seventh-overall in the 2011 NHL Draft by the Jets and made his debut the following season.
