Winnipeg Jets defenceman Nate Schmidt left Thursday's contest against the Nashville Predators with an upper-body injury and will not return, per the team.
Schmidt left after taking a big hit from Predators forward Tanner Jeannot behind his own net. The Winnipeg defenceman would make his way to the bench, before immediately heading down the tunnel.
There was no penalty called on the play, but on the ensuing faceoff, the Jets' Adam Lowry challenged Jeannot to a spirited exchange of fists.
Jets head coach Rick Bowness confirmed after the game that Schmidt was placed into concussion protocol and was not cleared to return. He did not have an update on the severity of the injury.
Winnipeg would go on to win the game 2-1 in extra time thanks to a Kyle Connor overtime winner.
Schmidt, 31, has played in 28 games for the Jets this season, scoring three goals and dishing out three assists.
