The Los Angeles Kings have hired former Ottawa Senators head coach D.J. Smith as an assistant coach on interim coach Jim Hiller's staff.
The news was reported on Monday and made official by the team on Tuesday.
Smith and Hiller previously worked together as assistants with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Hiller, previously an assistant coach with the Kings, was named interim coach on Friday after the team fired head coach Todd McLellan.
Smith was fired as Ottawa's head coach in December and replaced by interim coach Jacques Martin.
Hired by the Senators prior to the 2019-20 season, Smith was 131-154-2 with the Senators.
Before joining the Leafs as an assistant coach in 2015, Smith won a Memorial Cup as head coach of the Oshawa Generals.
