The Los Angeles Kings have acquired forward Zack MacEwen from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for forward Brendan Lemieux and a fifth-round pick.
MacEwan joins the Kings after a season and a half with the Flyers organization. The Charlottetown product spent parts of three seasons with the Vancouver Canucks before that.
Through 176 career NHL games, the 26-year-old's amassed 27 points, 233 penalty minutes and 399 hits. He has four goals and nine points to his name through 46 games in Philly this season.
In exchange for the six-foot-three, 205-pound MacEwen, the Flyers add another hard-nosed forward in six-foot-one, 215-pound Lemieux.
The 26-year-old Denver native heads back to the east after spending parts of three seasons with the Kings, logging time with the New York Rangers and Winnipeg Jets before that. In 257 career NHL appearances, Lemieux's collected 63 points, 463 penalty minutes and 615 hits.
MacEwen joins a Kings side that's been busy in the lead-up to the 2023 trade deadline, GM Rob Blake also adding netminder Joonas Korpisalo and defender Vladislav Gavrikov as his club hangs on to the No. 2 spot in the Pacific Division.
In acquiring MacEwen, Blake also opened up some cap space for the Kings, his new forward playing out a one-year, $925,000 pact — after which, he'll become a restricted free agent — while the departing Lemieux is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer after the conclusion of his one-year, $1.35-million deal.
