The Vegas Golden Knights have locked down defenceman Shea Theodore for the long term.
The team announced Thursday that the 29-year-old has signed a seven-year contract extension that carries an average annual value of $7,425,000.
The deal will make Theodore the Golden Knights' second highest-paid defenceman when it kicks in next season. His contract is valued just above fellow blueliner Noah Hanifin's $7.35 million, but below Alex Pietrangelo's AAV of $8.8 million.
Hanifin signed an eight-year extension in April, about a month after being acquired from the Calgary Flames. Pietrangelo joined Vegas as an unrestricted free agent in 2020.
A native of Aldergrove, B.C., Theodore recorded 42 points (five goals and 37 assists) in 47 games last season. He’s off to a strong start this season with seven points (one goal and six assists) in six games.
Drafted by the Anaheim Ducks as the 26th overall pick in 2013, Theodore spent two seasons with the team before being traded to Vegas.
Across 503 career regular-season games with the Ducks and Golden Knights, he has accumulated 313 points (72 goals and 241 assists). He's also played in 114 playoff games, recording an additional 68 points (15 goals and 53 assists).
Theodore helped the Golden Knights win their first Stanley Cup in 2023.
“I'm excited to be here another seven years and really solidify this place as home,” Theodore said in a video posted on the team's X account.
