  • MacKinnon holding slim lead over Kucherov, McDavid in scoring race

The race for the Art Ross Trophy is heating up.

After four points in Saturday's action, Colorado Avalanche forward Nathan MacKinnon holds the lead with 127 points, but two of the league's best are right on his heels.

Tampa Bay Lightning superstar Nikita Kucherov had two points Saturday to climb to 126 points and just one behind MacKinnon.

Meanwhile, Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid continued his torrid pace with another three points on Saturday, bringing his total to 125.

McDavid, who has won the Art Ross the past three seasons and five of the past seven, looked out of the race after an early season injury slowed his pace. But the Oilers superstar has come flying up the leaderboard, thanks largely to a league-leading 96 assists.

Adding to McDavid's case for his fourth-straight Art Ross is that he also holds the games-remaining advantage. The Oilers have 10 remaining, the Lighting nine, while MacKinnon and the Avalanche have just eight.

Kucherov already has one Art Ross to his name, as he won in 2018-19. MacKinnon is still searching for his first.

It should be quite the race down the home stretch between three of the NHL's best.
