Nick Robertson of the Toronto Maple Leafs is set to miss six to eight weeks of action to go through rehab on his injured shoulder, according to head coach Sheldon Keefe.
The young forward hurt his shoulder on Thursday night's 5-0 victory against the Los Angeles Kings after getting knocked into the boards by Kings defenceman Matt Roy. He had to be helped off the ice.
Robertson has two goals and three assists in 14 games so far this season for the Leafs, but has spent time in the minors with the Marlies.
After being looked at by team doctors on Friday, it was decided that he wouldn't undergo surgery and would instead work on healing the injury through rehab. Not having to get surgery will hopefully shorten his recovery time.
The Leafs are already dealing with a plethora of injuries with Calle Jarnkrok, Victor Mete, Jake Muzzin, Morgan Rielly and Jordie Benn all spending time on the injured list.
