Two NHL teams located in regions hit hard by Hurricane Helene have pledged donations to local victims.
The Carolina Hurricanes announced Monday that ticket revenue from Wednesday's pre-season game against the Nashville Predators "will directly benefit the relief efforts." Additionally, the Hurricanes will offer opportunities for fans to make donations at select concessions around the Lenovo Center.
Tampa Bay Lightning captain Victor Hedman and his wife Sanna have pledged $150,000 to the Tampa Police Benevolent Association and the Coast Guard Foundation to benefit those affected by the storm. Lightning players will donate $10,000 to Rebuilding Together Tampa Bay, a program that helps low-income families with housing.
Helene made landfall on the Florida Gulf Coast near Tampa on Friday as a Category 4 storm and made its way north, hitting areas in Georgia, the Carolinas and Tennessee.
The Associated Press reported that more than 100 people have died and that rainfall in areas topped more than two feet.
