The Tampa Bay Lightning had some bad injury luck on Thursday night, as both Tanner Jeannot and Pat Maroon left their game against the New York Islanders.
Both players were officially ruled out for the remainder of the game by the team in the third period.
Jeannot left after getting tangled up with Islanders defenceman Scott Mayfield and falling awkwardly on his right leg.
Jeannot exited midway through the second period after seeing 6:25 of ice time prior to the fall.
Meanwhile, Maroon left the contest after taking a skate to the rib area from Islanders forward Bo Horvat late in the second period.
Afterward, Lightning coach Jon Cooper said he had a high level of concern about Jeannot's injury.
"That's a tough one because he's a big part of our team and he was really coming into his own. To see that happen, those are tough ones to watch."
Since being acquired by the Lightning from the Nashville Predators prior to this year's NHL trade deadline, the 25-year-old Jeannot has one goal and three assists in 19 games for Tampa Bay.
The veteran Maroon has five goals and 14 points in 76 games in 2022-23.
The Lightning are currently third in the Atlantic Division and are locked in for a playoff rematch with the Toronto Maple Leafs in the opening round.
