It seems like Nikita Kucherov will be drinking sponsored beer out of the Stanley Cup this off-season.
The Tampa Bay Lightning star signed a contract with Bud Light, the company announced Friday, after the iconic press conference following his team’s second-consecutive Stanley Cup win Wednesday.
A shirtless Kucherov, who reportedly played all five games of the Cup Final with a fractured rib, took a seat in front of reporters and downed some beer before being brutally candid in his post-championship media availability.
“I didn’t want to go back to Montreal,” Kucherov said, with the infamous Bud Light sitting in front of him, during the interview. “The fans in Montreal, come on. They acted like they won the Stanley Cup last game. Are you kidding me? Are you kidding me? Their final was last series.”
Bud Light didn’t waste any time securing a contract with the Lightning winger, who went so far as to complain about the length of Wednesday’s media availability after his beer was done.
“Well, it’s a lot of questions too today. Come on. I’m used to one, two questions. Today’s like what, five? I can make a record.”
Kucherov is no stranger to breaking records. He joined Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux as the only players to lead skaters in post-season points two years in a row. After missing the entire regular season, the Russian had 32 points in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, including a two-goal, three-point performance in Game 1 of the Final.
No wonder he was thirsty.
