Tampa Bay Lightning forward Steve Stamkos has been removed from the COVID-19 Protocol list just two days after he’d been added, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reports.
Stamkos was added to the list on Friday after missing Thursday’s game against the Florida Panthers with what the team described as a lower-body injury.
Stamkos tweeted later Friday that it is suspected he received a false positive COVID-19 test and thanked fans for their support.
Thx to everyone who has reached out. At this time we suspect a false positive test. Hopefully that’s the case, and I will be back on the ice in the next couple of days . Until then I will continue to follow the NHL Covid list protocols. https://t.co/TWDEE9Zrfx

In 11 games this season, Stamkos has scored seven goals and added seven assists. Tampa Bay hosts Florida on Monday at 7 p.m. ET.
Friedman also noted that the Devils are down to just five players on the COVID-19 list. Earlier this month, they had as many as 17 players on the list.
