Michael Babcock III, son of ex-Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Mike Babcock, has joined the St. Louis Blues coaching staff, the team announced Wednesday.
Michael Babcock, 28, joins the Blues organization as the skills coach, alongside Mike Weber, who has been named an assistant coach for the 2023-24 season.
The announcement comes a week after speculation that his father, Mike Babcock, will be joining the Columbus Blue Jackets as head coach, once his contract with the Maple Leafs expires at the end of June.
This past NHL season, Babcock worked with the Ottawa Senators, where he specialized in developing game plans with coaching staff, pre-scouting and on-ice skill development.
Before his coaching career, Babcock spent two years working as an assistant for the University of Saskatchewan's men's hockey team. His dad was coach one of those years.
Babcock played four years for Merrimack College in NCAA Division I. He continued to play professionally with the Gothiques d'Amiens in the French Ligue Magnus, winning the Coupe de France Championship in 2019.
Weber, 35, joins the Blues coaching staff after spending the past three seasons as an assistant coach with the American Hockey League’s Rochester Americans. As a player, Weber played in 351 NHL regular-season games, collecting 53 points and 437 penalty minutes.
