Lemieux opened the scoring, on an assist from Wolanin, during the second period of the Kings’ game against the Vancouver Canucks. Lemieux tipped Wolanin’s point shot past Vancouver goalie Jaroslav Halak for the goal.
On March 1, 1996, Claude Lemieux scored a goal for the Avalanche with Craig Wolanin getting one of the assists against the Chicago Blackhawks.
Born just under a year apart, the 26-year-old Wolanin and 25-year-old Lemieux were junior teammates for part of the 2012-13 season with the Green Bay Gamblers and were reunited again last season when Wolanin played three games with the Kings after Los Angeles acquired him in a trade with the Ottawa Senators.
Wolanin was claimed off waivers by the Buffalo Sabres before the start of this season but then was reclaimed by the Kings earlier this month.
