The New York Rangers will start AHL call-up Louis Domingue in net for their home game against the Minnesota Wild on Thursday, head coach Peter Laviolette told reporters.
The Rangers recalled Domingue and fellow goaltender Dyland Garand from AHL Hartford on Tuesday to fill in for injured netminders Igor Shesterkin and Jonathan Quick, both of whom are listed as day to day.
Domingue, 31, is 59-60-10 with a 3.04 goals-against average and a .905 save percentage for his career with Arizona, Tampa Bay, New Jersey, Vancouver, Calgary and Pittsburgh. This year, he is 3-1 with a 1.75 GAA and .934 save percentage for Hartford.
The native of Saint-Hyacinthe, Que. also will become the first right-handed goalie to play for the Rangers in decades.
The Rangers (9-2-1) are in first in the Metropolitan Division.
Sabres forward Alex Tuch is day to day with an upper-body injury, per Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News.
The Sabres are hopeful Tuch can play on Friday against Minnesota.
Tuch has four goals and six assists in 13 games this season.
Capitals forward Anthony Mantha is day to day after getting hit in the ear with a shot during Wednesday's overtime loss to the Florida Panthers, per Tom Gulitti of NHL.com.
Mantha, who has three goals and one assist in 10 games this season, will not travel with the team for games against the New Jersey Devils on Friday and the New York Islanders on Saturday.
Defencemen Joel Edmundson (hand) and Trevor van Riemsdyk (lower-body injury) also will miss the trip, while forward Nic Dowd (upper-body injury) is questionable.
The Maple Leafs have recalled forward Pontus Holmberg from the AHL's Toronto Marlies, the team announced Thursday.
In a corresponding move, the team loaned defenceman Max Lajoie to the Marlies.
Holmberg, 24, has zero points in seven games for the Maple Leafs this season.
The Swedish winger was selected by the Maple Leafs in the sixth round of the 2018 NHL Draft. He had 10 goals and 12 assists in 38 games for the Maple Leafs last season.
Toronto has started the season 6-5-2 and is fifth in the Atlantic Division.
