Maple Leafs' Auston Matthews out for second straight game with undisclosed injury

Toronto Maple Leafs star Auston Matthews will not play in Thursday's game against the Detroit Red Wings.

The 25-year-old did not take part in the pre-game warmup.

Matthews sat out with an undisclosed injury on Wednesday when the Maple Leafs beat the Nashville Predators 2-1.

Head coach Sheldon Keefe did not elaborate on the injury when talking with reporters on Thursday. He said Wednesday it was a lingering issue and called Matthews' status day-to-day.

The 2021-22 NHL MVP has 20 goals and 27 assists in 41 games this season.

Wayne Simmonds will also get into the lineup taking Dryden Hunt's spot on the fourth line while Jordie Benn will slot in for Conor Timmins.
