Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Jake Muzzin exited Monday's game against the Arizona Coyotes with a neck injury after a collision with Clayton Keller in the second period.
Muzzin was slow to get up before skating off the ice following the collision in the Toronto zone midway through the second.
Leafs coach Sheldon Keefe had no further update on Muzzin after the team's 3-2 loss.
The Leafs are thin on defence with Timothy Liljegren (groin), Jordie Benn (groin) and Carl Dahlstrom (shoulder) all out.
Muzzin had three goals and 11 assists in 47 games with the Leafs last year.
The 33-year-old native of Woodstock, Ont., has been a mainstay on the Leafs blueline since he was acquired in a trade with the Los Angeles Kings in 2019.
Leafs forward Mitch Marner is hoping for the best.
