Maple Leafs' Dubas expects O'Reilly to make return before playoffs

Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas is expecting forward Ryan O'Reilly to be able to return for the team leading up to the NHL playoffs.

Dubas made the statement during the second day of GM meetings, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.

O'Reilly broke his finger after he was hit in the hand by a shot from teammate Auston Matthews during the Maple Leafs' 4-1 loss to the Vancouver Canucks on March 4.

The 32-year-old centre underwent surgery on March 7 and was placed on long term injury reserve with an estimated recovery timeline of four weeks.

Prior to his injury, O'Reilly had recorded three goals and two assists in eight games with the Maple Leafs after the team acquired him in a trade with the St. Louis Blues.
