Matthew Knies appears to be progressing towards a return to action.
Knies was on the ice working with coaches before the Toronto Maple Leafs took to the ice for morning skate.
The six-foot-three winger was placed on injured reserve Friday. This came after he sustained an upper-body injury on a hit by Zach Whitecould in the Leafs' 3-0 win over the Vegas Golden Knights on Wednesday.
Whitecould was not given a penalty for the hit, however he was called for roughing on the ensuing scuffle with Toronto’s Simon Benoit.
Knies, 22, is eligible to return on Saturday against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The Phoenix native has eight goals and four assists in 20 games this season.
