Toronto Maple Leafs goalie Anthony Stolarz will start Friday for a divisional matchup against the Detroit Red Wings, the team announced.
Stolarz (5-2-1) is coming off a 29-save shutout Wednesday vs. Boston. He's posted a .928 save percentage and 2.12 goals-against average in nine games.
Out of goalies with 25-plus games played last season, Stolarz led the league in save percentage (.925) and goals-against average (2.03).
The six-foot-six netminder is in his first season with Toronto. He signed a two-year, $5-million contract after winning a Stanley Cup with the Florida Panthers last season.
Coming into the season, the expectation was a split net between Stolarz and 26-year-old Joseph Woll. An early-season injury to Woll limited him to only three starts on the campaign.
