The Toronto Maple Leafs have appeared to dodge a bullet.
After goaltender Ilya Samsonov left Saturday night's game against the Edmonton Oilers after suffering an injury in the third period, head coach Sheldon Keefe said Sunday that the initial diagnosis is "not anything we would consider as concern at this point."
The 27-year-old netminder suffered the injury as he stretched out to attempt a save on a shot by Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl — which ended up making its way into the net. Samsonov slid his left leg into the post on the play.
Keefe did say that Samsonov is currently "not 100 per cent," but the team is hopeful that after a few days off, he will be ready to go.
Samsonov got Sunday's game against the Carolina Hurricanes off, as Joseph Woll started with Martin Jones as the backup. The team then has an off-day on Monday, before returning to action against the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday.
In 34 games this season, Samsonov has posted a 3.12 goals-against average and .889 save percentage.
The Maple Leafs sit third in the Atlantic Division with 89 points, six points behind the second-place Florida Panthers.
