The Toronto Maple Leafs don't expect to see Auston Matthews back in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Ottawa Senators.
General manager Brad Treliving provided an update on the captain's status, saying he was doubtful to play. Matthews did not participate in practice on Monday after skating on Saturday.
Matthews has missed the last three games with an upper-body injury. The team has not provided a timeline for his return.
Treliving also said that forward Calle Jarnkrok has suffered a setback in his recovery from a sports hernia that has forced him to be sidelined since training camp. The 33-year-old is expected to travel to New York to see a specialist.
The team has been banged up at the forward position, with Max Pacioretty being placed on injured reserve Monday with a lower-body injury. Treliving said Pacioretty will miss several weeks with the injury that he suffered against the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday.
