Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube told reporters forward Max Pacioretty is unlikely to play this weekend as the team returns from the 4 Nations Face-Off break.
Berube said Pacioretty, who tweaked something during Wednesday's practice, tried to do some stuff during Thursday's morning skate but was a "no-go" and left the ice.
The 36-year-old Pacioretty has been limited to 37 games this season due to injuries and has five goals and eight assists.
He signed a one-year contract with the club in October.
The Maple Leafs (33-20-2) return to action Saturday when they host the Carolina Hurricanes and visit the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday.
