Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Jake McCabe has been fined $5,000 for cross-checking Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand, the NHL's department of player safety announced Friday.
The Maple Leafs and Bruins faced off twice this week, meeting in Toronto on Monday and Boston on Thursday. The Bruins earned decisive 4-1 victories in both games.
In Thursday's game, Marchand fell to the ice as he took McCabe's cross-check up high in the first period.
Additionally, Bruins forward Charlie Coyle received a $5,000 fine of his own for cross-checking Maple Leafs forward Tyler Bertuzzi in the second period of the game.
Coyle received two penalties on the play: two minutes for slashing and two minutes for cross-checking Bertuzzi.
Having also won their previous two games against the Maple Leafs earlier this season, the Bruins earned a 4-0 season sweep over their rivals.
