Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Matt Murray recently had successful bilateral hip surgery, the team announced Monday.
The Maple Leafs added that his recovery will take six to eight months.
General manager Brad Trevliving ruled out Murray for the season in a press conference at the start of training camp, saying the goaltender needed significant surgery.
"We're not necessarily focused on time frames right now," Treliving said at the time. "This is months not days or weeks."
Murray, 29, is entering the final season of his contract with the Maple Leafs but had fallen down the depth chart after missing time with abductor, ankle and head injuries in 2022-23.
He had a 14-8-2 record with a .903 save percentage in 26 starts last season.
