The Toronto Maple Leafs placed Finnish defenceman Axel Rindell on waivers Thursday for the purpose of terminating his contract.
Rindell, 22, was the Leafs' sixth-round pick, 177th overall, in 2020 and has not played a game in the NHL.
This season, in five games with the Newfoundland Growlers of the ECHL, Rindell had two goals and two assists. In six games after being called up by the Toronto Marlies of the AHL, Rindell did not record a point and was minus-2.
Rindell signed a two-year, entry-level contract with the Leafs on April 8, 2022, that kicked in at the beginning of the 2022-23 season. His cap hit was $838,750.
