The Toronto Maple Leafs have put forward Matthew Knies on the injured reserve with an upper-body injury, the team announced Friday.
Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube told reporters Friday that Knies is "improving" but didn't know when he would return. Knies was placed on IR, retroactive to Nov. 20.
Knies sustained an upper-body injury during the second period of Wednesday's 3-0 win over the Vegas Golden Knights. The 22-year-old left the game after he was checked by Vegas defenceman Zach Whitecloud.
No penalty was called on the play, although Whitecloud went to the box for roughing after mixing it up with Toronto's Simon Benoit.
Knies has 12 points (eight goals and four assists) in 20 games this season.
He recorded 35 points (15 goals and 20 assists) in 80 games during his first full campaign with the team in 2023-24.
