The Toronto Maple Leafs placed forward Jason Spezza and goalie Aaron Dell on waivers on Sunday.
Spezza, 37, has skated in all three of Toronto’s games so far this season. He has one assist and is minus-1 with 7:44 average time on ice per game.
Dell, 31, hasn’t skated yet for the Maple Leafs, who he signed with this off-season after four seasons with the San Jose Sharks.

Spezza and Dell combine to carry a cap hit of $1.5 million. Other NHL teams now have the option to claim these players.

With the recent injury to forward Nicholas Robertson, the Maple Leafs appear to be attempting to create salary cap room in order to add another player to their roster.
