Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Rasmus Sandin will be placed on injured reserve after suffering a knee injury in Saturday's loss to the Nashville Predators.
Sandin missed practice on Monday after playing the entire game against the Predators. General manager Kyle Dubas said that Sandin will be out for the foreseeable future.
Forward Ondrej Kase was also absent from practice after taking an elbow from Predators forward Matt Duchene. Keefe said that Kase is doing well and was pushing to get back in the game but the Leafs held him out for precautionary reasons given his history with concussions.
In 51 games this season, Sandin has five goals and 16 points while averaging a career-high 16:58 of ice time.
Jake Muzzin (concussion) joined the team at practice wearing a red non-contact jersey while goaltender Jack Campbell (rib) got some work in before the main group went on the ice.
Toronto also recalled Teemu Kivihalme and Joey Duszak from the AHL's Toronto Marlies for practice as they await the arrival of defenceman Mark Giordano.
