Toronto Maple Leafs forward Ryan Reaves left Thursday's game against the Columbus Blue Jackets with a lower-body injury after crashing into the boards and did not return.
After the 6-5 overtime loss, Leafs coach Sheldon Keefe said he expects Reaves to be out for "a while."
Reaves was retrieving a puck when his skate appeared to catch a rut, sending him hard into the boards. Slow to get up, Reaves was helped off the ice and didn't appear to be putting any weight on his left leg.
Signed by the Maple Leafs to a three-year, $4.05 million contract as a free agent in the off-season, Reaves has been in and out of the lineup, scoring just one goal in 20 appearances.
