The Toronto Maple Leafs have called up defenceman Kristiāns Rubīns from the Toronto Marlies of the AHL.
The team made the announcement Thursday morning .
Rubīns, 23, is a top prospect in the Maple Leafs system, and has played primarily with the Marlies over the last three seasons. In six games this season in the AHL, Rubīns has one goal and two assists, is a plus-2 and has two minutes in penalties.
The 6-foot-5, 227-pound Latvian has yet to play in the NHL, although he has played in Latvia, Sweden, Medicine Hat, Denmark and Toronto. He was signed as a free agent by the Leafs on April 1, 2020.
