The Toronto Maple Leafs are breathing a sigh of relief.
Goaltender Ilya Samsonov exited Saturday night's game against the Edmonton Oilers after suffering an injury in the third period, but it doesn't appear to be a long-term issue.
After a 6-3 win, Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe had a positive update on Samsonov's status.
"Looks like he's going to be fine," Keefe told reporters.
As he stretched out to attempt a save on a shot by Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl — which ended up making its way into the net — Samsonov slid his left leg into the post.
The 27-year-old netminder stayed down sprawled on the ice while being attended to by a trainer and eventually got up on his own and was able to slowly skate off the ice. He was then helped to the locker room.
Entering Saturday's contest, Samsonov had posted a .888 save percentage and 3.12 goals-against average over 33 games this season.
He was replaced in net by backup Martin Jones, and the Maple Leafs ultimately pulled off a 6-3 win.
