The Toronto Maple Leafs have sent one of their depth defencemen back to the minors.
Marshall Rifai has been assigned to the AHL-affiliated Toronto Marlies, the team announced Wednesday.
Rifai has yet to make an appearance for the Maple Leafs this season and was called up on Jan. 6 as a result of Jake McCabe being placed on the injured reserve the same day.
In 26 games with the Marlies this season, Rifai has recorded two goals and two assists.
The 26-year-old signed a two-year extension on Sept. 5 that will kick in at the start of the 2025-26 season, carrying an average annual value of $775,000.
Rifai initially joined the organization in 2022 on a one-year AHL contract after playing three seasons at Harvard University.
