Another Nylander is sticking around in Toronto.
The Maple Leafs announced the signing of forward Alex Nylander to a one-year, $775,000 contract on Friday. With the deal, Toronto also recalled him from the AHL's Toronto Marlies after placing Matthew Knies on injured reserve with an upper-body injury.
Alex, 26, is the younger brother of Maple Leafs superstar William Nylander. He spent last season splitting time between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Columbus Blue Jackets.
The younger Nylander signed a one-year deal with the Marlies in July. In 14 games in the AHL this season, Nylander has recorded eight goals and four assists.
Over the course of his seven-year NHL career, Nylander has 25 goals and 24 assists in 121 games with the Blue Jackets, Penguins, Chicago Blackhawks and Buffalo Sabres.
