The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed yet another defenceman as they try to beef up their blue line.
Toronto agreed to terms with defenceman Jani Hakanpää on a two-year, $3 million contract worth $1.5 million AAV, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported Monday.
Hakanpaa, 32, is a big 6-foot-6, 225-pound defensive defenceman who tallied two goals and 10 assists in 64 games with the Dallas Stars last season.
He suffered a knee injury late in the season that required arthroscopic surgery, missing the team's last 13 regular-season games and the entirety of the playoffs. There is no specific timetable for his recovery.
The Maple Leafs made some other big adds on their blue line on Monday, signing Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Brandon Tanev to lucrative free agent deals.
