The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed University of Notre Dame forward Alex Steeves to a three-year, entry-level deal for the 2021-22 season, the team announced Sunday.

The 21-year-old from Eden Prairie, Minn., put up 32 points in 29 games to lead the Fighting Irish this season, good for 10th in scoring among NCAA skaters.

Over the course of three seasons at Notre Dame, Steeves recorded 69 points in 104 games and captured a B1G championship in 2019.

Steeves, who went undrafted, was among the top college free agents on the market.

His season came to an end earlier this week, when Notre Dame and Michigan were removed from the NCAA Division I men’s hockey tournament because of positive COVID-19 test results within the teams’ Tier 1 testing group.
