The 22-year-old will be loaned to the Swedish league’s Vaxjo Lakers — for whom he’s played for the past four seasons — for next season.
In 45 games for the club in 2020-21, Holmberg posted 23 points, and went on to be named the league’s Forward of the Year. He added 14 more during 14 playoff games as his club claimed the SHL championship, with Holmberg earning playoff MVP honours for his work.
Holmberg was originally drafted by the Maple Leafs in the sixth round of the 2018 NHL Draft.
