Mitch Marner's night was one for the ages on Saturday, as he extended his team record point streak to 22 games, then later cashed in the overtime winner.
Marner's 12th goal of the season was a doozy; with the Maple Leafs up a skater following a Jonathan Huberdeau high stick, the Thornhill native made no mistake. Collecting a deflected shot, he wired the puck past Calgary goaltender Dan Vladar to cap off his memorable night.
Earlier in the evening, the 25-year-old picked up a secondary assist on a William Nylander power-play goal to tie the game at 2-2 against the Calgary Flames. Marner dug the puck out of the corner before feeding Rasmus Sandin to eventually set up the Nylander goal.
The multi-point night gives Marner an even 30 points during his streak.
The assist, in particular, moves Marner's impeccable streak closer to historic territory. Marner now has the third-longest streak by all active players behind only future Hall of Famers Patrick Kane (26 games) and Sidney Crosby (25 games).
Additionally, the assist moves Marner into a tie for the ninth longest point streak since 1987-88 per NHL Public Relations, tying him with Danny Heatley and Steve Yzerman.
Marner's streak has led to team success, too. The Maple Leafs have collected at least one point in 14 straight games following their victory on Hockey Night in Canada.
