At the beginning of December, two different worlds collided when the Toronto Maple Leafs hosted Manchester City legends Nedum Onuoha and Shaun Wright-Phillips for an afternoon of fun.
The City duo visited Toronto as part of the club's 4-In-A-Row Trophy Tour, an event celebrating the Blues' historic fourth Premier League title in a row. In a video released on Thursday by the two teams, Onuoha and Wright-Phillips were shown spending time with Leafs legend and ambassador Rick Vaive learning how to skate and handle pucks.
"Well, this is different. I can't say that being on ice is something that I'm used to," Onuoha said while trying to balance on his skates.
"There’s so many things to think about. Feet, balance, hockey stick, and the puck’s not even involved yet!" Wright-Phillips joked.
While the pair are more used to soccer cleats and muddy grass than frosty arenas and Zambonis, they soon got the hang of the iconic Canadian game.
"Oh, wow! I got a good student here, look at this!" Vaive said after Wright-Phillips was able to skate across the ice unassisted.
The day ended with some memorabilia, with the Leafs gifting the duo personalized Toronto jerseys — which the soccer legends accepted with glee.
The Manchester City trophy tour is an opportunity for the current Premier League champions to take their silverware closer to fans around the world, giving them a chance to revel in their teams' glory face-to-face.
However, this is the first time the English team has stopped in Canada on one of these tours, which proved to be a success.
To begin their time in Toronto, City's trophies (including the Community Shield and the Club World Cup, which City won last season in addition to the Premier League) were displayed at Nathan Phillips Square before venturing to the Toronto Islands to be pictured with the Toronto skyline and the CN Tower in the background.
The third stop was capturing the cups at Niagara Falls, before ending at The Carlu Hotel in Toronto for a live fan event on Dec. 1.
