A trio of Canadian teams placed players on waivers Tuesday.
Jimmy Vesey of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Paul Byron of the Montreal Canadiens and Anton Forsberg of the Winnipeg Jets have been placed on waivers.
Vesey, the 2016 Hobey Baker Award winner as the top NCAA men’s ice hockey player, has struggled in his first season with the Maple Leafs. In 30 games he has scored five times and added two assists. By waiving the 28-year-old, Toronto will clear $900,000 in cap space.
Byron has played in 27 games with the Canadiens this season, scoring two goals and adding five assists. The 31-year-old winger has regularly shuffled between the main team and taxi squad this year.
Forsberg was claimed by the Jets in January after being waived by the Carolina Hurricanes, who had picked him up after he was waived by the Edmonton Oilers. Forsberg posted a 1-1 record in three appearances with the Hurricanes this season to go along with a 3.35 goals-against average and a .897 save percentage.
Mikhail Grigorenko was also placed on waivers by the Columbus Blue Jackets.
