Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Joseph Woll's recovery from injury is progressing, but no return is imminent, according to head coach Sheldon Keefe.
The 25-year-old will remain rehabbing his high-ankle sprain in Toronto during the All-Star break said the coach, with the hope being that he can start practising with the team after that. However, Keefe mentioned that a return to game action for Woll is still a ways off.
"He's progressing very well, he's going to remain here and work through our bye week and All-Star break," said Keefe. "So, he'll remain on the ice. I think the plan or the hope is that once we return, he'll be closer to, or ready to, join our practices.
"I would say, though, that him coming back to play after the All-Star break would not be imminent. It would be more so progressing with practices and then testing it and progressing from there. Still quite a ways away from games."
Woll suffered the injury on Dec. 7 in a game against Ottawa after making a save on Senators forward Rourke Chartier. He required assistance to leave the ice in the third period. Two days later, the team announced he would be week-to-week.
Before the injury, Woll had a 8-5-1 record with a 2.80 goals-against average and .916 save percentage in 15 games. Over 26 career games with the Maple Leafs, he has a 17-7-1 record along with a 2.62 goals-against average and .919 save percentage.
Woll has been back on the ice skating since Jan. 8.
