Calgary Flames starting goaltender Jacob Markstrom will sit out of Monday's game against the Vegas Golden Knights with the flu, leaving backup Dan Vladar to take the net against the defending Stanley Cup Champions.
In a corresponding move, Dustin Nickel has been signed to an amateur tryout agreement and will act as the emergency backup goalie.
Markstrom was confirmed to be sick after the 5 p.m. MT roster deadline, meaning AHL goalie Dustin Wolf could not be called up.
Vladar, 26, has started six games for the Flames this season, posting a .896 save percentage and 2.97 goals against average.
Nickel, 32, is a Calgary native who played two seasons with the Calgary Canucks in the Alberta Junior Hockey League from 2009-11.
